I almost died burying a pimp in Compton back in my funeral home director days. There I stood… handing flowers to opposing gangs after my boss showed up late with the body for the funeral! He demanded I join him because he couldn't bring all the flowers over in the hearst. I just so happened to be wearing blue sweats and a grey and red Ohio State hoodie Have you ever attended a funeral and walked in the church and the casket wasn’t there?!?!? Mix that with Compton and a gang truce outta respect for this pimp…and yeah... can’t be late for that one…

I’m glad to say that those days are behind me and this trip back to my third home felt calm. From rollin with my mans Fatboy and celebrating his 40th, to all the intellectual convo with Black & Ro, to Rallo…my college roommate who is a brother to me…pulling up and holding me down, to all the sandwich spots me and My Dawnie went to! That dirty baby at Jeff’s Table!! The cauliflower joint at Bub’s & Grandma!! To the Caged Don pulling up nightly for nightlife, to Karla’s presence, to my brother Emmanuel aka Manny who’s so L.A. … and the way he spoke life into me and my calling… to his sons Boaz & Enoch who requested Parliament/Funkadelic and Bootsy for their choice of music on our ride, to missing Karla Francis… my girl… how we ran these LA streets back in my funeral director days… how she brought light to some really scary days for me. She was there in spirit...

Los Angeles is beautiful and tricky at the same damn time. Come take a ride with me as we gaze through the haze…
