Everyone who experiences heartbreak knows that it can make or break them. The ones who choose to heal after hurt and start over, ultimately find new love and new beginnings. Restoration after heartbreak is what multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter and producer Aaron Abernathy is exploring on his new album, Epilogue, set for release January 28th. Abernathy injects a wide range of sound and vulnerability in this seamless, musical 18-track story, giving us a front seat on a compelling emotional roller coaster ride you can only experience when you press play.

“Epilogue is about seeking healing and resolution with yourself after heartbreak. It’s the only way to move forward in a healthy manner and find the true love we all long for in the future,” says Abernathy. “I wrote this album because too often we move on to the next relationship without working on ourselves; creating a vicious cycle where we continuously walk in relationships unprepared to do our part to create a love that will last.”

Epilogue is the book end to Abernathy’s trilogy of albums, which include his 2016 debut and introduction Monologue, an album with themes of love, purpose, and family; followed by his introspective 2017 release Dialogue, a concept album discussing hot-button issues of economics, segregation, and racial politics. Epilogue showcases Abernathy’s unguarded feelings about himself and his love life set in three acts - HIS, HERS and OURS.

Exclusively handing all lyrics, Abernathy illustrates the complexities of dating in our late 20s, 30s and 40s through the perspective of his own heartbreak, which he’s been reluctant to share until now. HIS takes us through Abernathy’s breakup with a woman he loved dearly and the raw feelings, questioning of himself, and challenges to restart that come with their demise. HERS tells the story of Abernathy’s friend, a woman named Noelle, who experiences heartbreak at the hands of a man she thought she would spend the rest of her life with and how she copes with the relationship’s abrupt ending. And OURS, focuses on how both Abernathy and Noelle rediscover each other and the possibility of healing and loving again after dealing with heartbreak.

Musically, Abernathy’s composition style presents a mosaic of 20th Century soul with a modern day twist. “I Want You Again,” is reminiscent of a doo-wop ballad from the ‘50s with attitude; you’ll find Motown’s famous double clap from the ‘60s on “Lonely Nights”; “The Bitter Things In Life” consists of soulful piano with a nod to Elton John in the ‘70s. You’ll find an ‘80s vibe on the Prince-inspired climax track “Song & Dance,” a gospeldelic feel on “Noelle” and a heavy neo-soul mood revisiting the ‘90s in “Revisions.”

Epilogue unveils the complexities of displaying our true feelings around the love and love lossed that shapes all of us. Abernathy’s willingness to display vulnerability on a topic that often stays surface level from men, encourages more growth and conversation from men to express their feelings and seeking a healthy love life. This story backed by his expert production, arrangements, distinct lead and signature layered vocals uses different eras of music to paint a complex picture of healing that presents a unique beginning, middle and end to the intricacies of a relationship.

Accompanying the release of Epilogue is a video series of interviews related to the three Acts on the album. Filmed throughout his travels on tour in Europe and North America late last year, Abernathy asks listeners across the world about their own relationships and healing, producing a collection of real-life stories meant to inspire healthy, long-lasting love for us all.
